Why Timber Cladding?
The increasing popularity of timber cladding amongst architects and designers over recent years reflects its unique qualities for use as a protective and decorative envelope for buildings. Timber cladding is attractive, versatile, environmentally friendly, allows for great flexibility in design and can be used for any scale of building or project.
It suits traditional or contemporary styles, is appropriate for any application from social housing to grand designs and can be used throughout construction or just play a minor part in the shape of small infill panels. For added variation either a warm, vibrant finish can be achieved using wood stains or the boards can be left to weather naturally to a silvery-grey colour, blending harmoniously with their surroundings.
Generally speaking cladding falls into 2 categories:
- Semi-stable, where some board movement is permitted
(a prime example is tongue and grooved cladding).
- Non-stable, where free movement of the timber is permitted
(as in overlapped cladding).
